I had more fun doing this talk than any other in my 20+ year career in network marketing. I want to share with you the lessons since many of you weren’t there last year when I did it.
When my name was introduced by the VOG, the music cranked up “One Foot (in Front of the Other)” by Walk the Moon… but no Brian came out on stage. After people were looking around wondering what’s going on, a spotlight shined on me sitting in the bleacher seats way up high. I sat there and began my talk from that seat. I explained that this is where I started in the business, way up here in the crowd. I wanted so much to become a success so I can sit with the Executive Directors in the floor section. But I knew I had to work my way down.
[As you’re reading this, you may want to refer to the photos below which will walk you through the story as it happened]
As I walked down from the bleacher seats, row by row, I talked about my experiences in my business journey. I put myself back in time, but in the present living in the shoes of the people in the audiences in those rows I was talking to. I could see people reacting to what I was saying.
On that journey, I almost quit 100 times. But I persisted, and grinded, and accepted coaching… and I made it to the floor.
And then by helping more people to build and succeed, my seats got moved up closer to the stage from convention to convention.
And then I found myself on stage speaking to audiences of 8,000 to 12,000 people.
But I was that guy who started way up there! I was a nobody who had dreams of becoming somebody. (I was a somebody, but my production and business just had to catch up with me)
After I shared some thoughts on how to build your belief and create your plan, I had to remind everyone why they were in that arena.
I asked everyone to pull out their phones and open up a picture of their WHY on their screen. Maybe it was a picture of their spouse, or kids, or their dream home or bucket list vacation spot. Once everyone had their picture on their phone, I asked for the lights to be brought down… and for everyone to “put their Why in the sky”. Then we ran “One Foot” song again with the lyrics scrolling across the big screens. I asked everyone to singing along with it, while holding their phones in the air.
It was a reminder of how important our Why’s are, and how it won’t happen overnight, but rather you just keep putting one foot in front of the other and move towards it.
I hope that this recounting of my talk at this convention will help you to visualize your journey to success in your business. Go download the song, and listen to it while you look at your Why on your phone right now. Let the feelings inside you come alive. Those are the feelings you must retain so that you are driven so much that nobody can stand in your way.
I will see you at the top of the mountain!
